HANCHU ESS 16kWh Battery: Meet the New Polaris L

HANCHU ESS 16kWh Battery: Meet the New Polaris L

The new HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery is an exciting addition to the home energy-storage market, offering substantial capacity, LFP battery technology and strong weather protection in a single unit.

We recently got a first-hand look at the new battery at Solar & Storage Live UK 2026 at the NEC Birmingham, where HANCHU ESS demonstrated the product alongside its wider battery-storage range.

One of the standout moments was seeing the battery’s IP66 weather protection demonstrated live with water — something that certainly attracted plenty of attention at the show.

The event was also particularly special for us because we have recently been recognised as HANCHU ESS Premium Installers.

What Is the HANCHU ESS 16kWh Battery and Who Is It For?

The new HANCHU ESS POLA-16L-P, also known as the Polaris L 16kWh, is a low-voltage lithium iron phosphate battery designed for residential energy storage.

It offers 16kWh of nominal storage capacity in a single battery, making it an interesting option for homes with higher electricity usage, larger solar systems, EVs or heat pumps.

Some of the main specifications include:

  • 16kWh nominal capacity
  • Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells
  • 95% depth of discharge
  • IP66 protection
  • 6,000+ battery cycles
  • Operating temperature from -20°C to 55°C
  • C5-M corrosion protection
  • Integrated wheels and concealed handles
  • Up to 16 batteries connected in parallel
  • Up to 256kWh of total storage capacity

For homeowners wanting to store more solar energy and reduce reliance on grid electricity, the HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery could be a very interesting option.

We Saw the HANCHU ESS 16kWh Battery Water Demonstration Live

One of the most impressive parts of the HANCHU ESS stand was the live water demonstration.

The battery has an IP66 ingress-protection rating, meaning its enclosure is dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets.

That is particularly relevant in the UK, where outdoor battery-storage equipment may need to deal with rain, moisture and changing weather conditions.

It is important to be accurate here: IP66 does not mean the battery is designed to be permanently submerged underwater.

However, seeing the water protection demonstrated in person was a great way to show how the enclosure has been designed for demanding outdoor conditions.

A 16kWh Battery for Higher-Energy Homes

One of the biggest attractions of the Polaris L is its capacity.

A 16kWh home battery could suit households with:

  • Larger solar PV systems
  • Higher evening electricity use
  • Electric vehicles
  • Heat pumps
  • Electric hot-water systems
  • Home offices
  • Higher overall household consumption

The right battery size will always depend on the individual property.

A larger battery is not automatically better.

When designing a battery-storage system, we consider your annual electricity consumption, solar generation, usage patterns, electricity tariff and future energy requirements.

The aim is to install a battery that works properly for your household rather than simply choosing the biggest available option.

Store More of Your Solar Energy

Battery storage can help homeowners use more of the electricity generated by their solar panels.

During the day, solar panels may generate more electricity than the property needs.

Without a battery, much of that excess electricity may be exported to the grid.

With battery storage, surplus solar energy can instead be stored and used later in the evening or overnight.

This can help increase solar self-consumption and reduce the amount of electricity being purchased from the grid.

Depending on your tariff and system setup, a battery may also be able to charge during cheaper off-peak electricity periods.

If you are considering both solar panels and battery storage, it is worth looking at the system as a whole rather than treating each product separately.

HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery

Scalable Up to 256kWh

Another strong feature of the HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery is scalability.

Up to 16 batteries can be connected in parallel, giving a potential maximum storage capacity of 256kWh.

Most residential properties will never need anything close to this amount of storage, but it gives the system flexibility for larger homes, high-energy applications and future expansion.

LFP Battery Technology

The HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery uses lithium iron phosphate, commonly known as LFP or LiFePO4.

LFP battery chemistry is widely used in home energy-storage systems because of its durability, thermal stability and cycle life.

HANCHU specifies the new battery at 6,000+ cycles.

The system also includes multiple layers of battery protection and temperature monitoring.

Designed With Installers in Mind

At around 120kg, the HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery is a substantial piece of equipment.

To help with positioning and installation, HANCHU has included integrated wheels and four concealed handles in addition to the ability to wall mount.

The system also features pre-wired connections and automatic addressing, helping simplify installation where multiple batteries are used.

These practical details may not be the first thing homeowners think about, but good product design can make a real difference during installation.

Proud to Be HANCHU ESS Premium Installers

We were very pleased to recently receive recognition as HANCHU ESS Premium Installers. For our customers, this means working with a team that is familiar with HANCHU ESS technology and understands how to design systems around individual properties and energy requirements.

We have seen the new 16kWh battery first-hand, spoken with the people behind the technology and watched the system being demonstrated at one of the UK’s biggest solar and battery exhibitions.

That gives us valuable insight when discussing HANCHU battery storage with customers and recommending the right system for their home.

Is the HANCHU ESS 16kWh Battery Right for You?

The HANCHU ESS Polaris L could be a strong option for homeowners looking for larger-scale battery storage.

Its combination of 16kWh capacity, LFP battery cells, 95% depth of discharge, IP66 protection and system scalability gives it an impressive set of specifications.

But battery sizing should always be based on the property.

Before recommending a battery system, we look at factors such as:

  • Electricity usage
  • Solar generation
  • EV charging
  • Heat-pump demand
  • Electricity tariffs
  • Available installation space
  • Future energy plans

That allows us to recommend a system based on how your home actually uses electricity.

Thinking About Installing a HANCHU ESS 16kWh Battery?

The HANCHU ESS 16kWh battery is one of the most interesting additions we have seen to HANCHU’s residential storage range.

Having seen the battery up close at Solar & Storage Live — including the IP66 water demonstration — we are looking forward to seeing how the system performs across future installations.

As HANCHU ESS Premium Installers, we can assess your electricity usage, solar generation and future energy needs before recommending the right battery setup for your home.

Whether you are considering a new solar PV system, adding battery storage to an existing installation or planning for an EV or heat pump, our team can help design a solution around your actual energy requirements.
